Amaurophilia

A sexual obsession or inclination related to actual or simulated blindness is known as amaurophilia. Individuals with amaurophilia, often referred to as amaurophiles, may want to have sex in complete darkness in order to mimic blindness, or they may choose to have sex with blind or blindfolded partners in order to experience what it's like to be blind.

The Greek terms amaurosis, which means loss of vision, and philia, which means attraction, are the roots of the word amaurophilia.

More About Amaurophilia

The reasons why certain amaurophiles want to have sex in the darkness are the subject of numerous theories. According to some, these individuals only relish the increased sensitivity that results from sexual stimulation when the sense of sight is taken away. According to some theories, amaurophiles may like dark sex because they feel inadequate sexually, feel guilty about sex or nudity, either for religious or nonreligious reasons, or possibly have low self-esteem.

Some amaurophiles would rather have sex with blind or blinded persons. Perhaps their partner's increased sensitivity to touch when blind adds to the amaurophile's delight.

On the other hand, an amaurophile who feels guilty or unworthy of having sex might feel more confident if they are invisible to a sexual partner.

By urging their partner to use a cane, study Braille, or engage in other role-playing activities, amaurophiles can extend their fetish beyond the bedroom.

The majority of amaurophiliacs lead good sexual lives. As with all paraphilias, though, if the disorder begins to affect a person's personal or professional life, treatment may be sought.

The majority of people find it uncomfortable to have sex in bright light. This is not an indication of amaurophilia and is completely normal.

Lygerastia is a passion for having sex in the dark and is strongly related to amaurophilia.
