Petplay, BDSM and Bondage: Tying it all Together
Petplay is a slightly different kind of animal roleplay where players can fully assume the roles of an animal or handler/owner. For some, it's a way to escape reality. Others take pleasure in the thought of being dehumanized or humiliated. Still, others only take pleasure in investigating an animal's mind. The motivations behind pet play are as diverse as the individuals who engage in it.
The great majority of participants embrace some degree of BDSM practice, even though some are able to pet play more innocently. There are instances where BDSM and pet play go hand in hand. This is because caring for your "pet" involves both control and attention. Petplay actually turns out to be an excellent way for the "owners" to demonstrate their love and care for their "pets" through this caring element.
Sex or No Sex?
Determining whether or if your pet and owner will have a sexual relationship is crucial from the start. Although it doesn't really matter who you choose, it can be unpleasant for one of the two partners to be thrust into a sexual position out of the blue. If you decide to go the sexual experience route, you might adopt your animal character during the scenario and then revert to your usual self after experiencing sexual gratification.
BDSM Elements of Petplay
There is nearly always a significant BDSM influence in pet play scenarios, whether they are sexual or non-sexual. Despite the fact that play isn't specifically a part of BDSM culture, many elements of the relationship dynamic are similar. Although it is scarce, it is possible to have a play relationship that is totally free of BDSM influence.
Petplay's owner/pet relationship is the primary cause of this challenge. It easily fits into the domination and submission sections of BDSM since one person assumes control of the situation and is in charge of their pet's security and well-being. This relationship might not exist in a pet play scenario where both partners were acting like wild animals, but this is typically not recommended because it is essential to have someone watching over you while you explore the new headspace.
The methods used by pet owners to train their animals are strikingly similar to those used by enslavers to train their slaves. Over time, the pet will be taught acceptable behaviour, and if they don't learn it, they will be disciplined. In pet play, the punishments are typically ones that are historically intended to discipline the animal in question (such as smacking a dog or cat on the nose), but in regular BDSM scenes, the punishments are typically relatively enjoyable (whipping or slapping, for example). Pets won't always appreciate the penalties, and it's crucial to set limits because persistent punishments like tying up can be harmful to a person's health and occasionally even abusive.
The animal may also have limited communication. It may only be permitted to converse using woofs or whinnies, depending on the choices made by the two before they begin. This will usually be classified as a form of sensory deprivation. You should have a safe word in place if you decide to completely cut off your pet's communication.
Bondage Elements of Petplay
According to the BDSM, bondage is essentially a restriction on one's freedom of movement. Although there are many different reasons to do this, play tends to have a somewhat consistent theme. Pet owners like to limit their animals' range of motion in order to enhance the authenticity of the animal experience. Although these practices can be uncomfortable or even painful, pets do not necessarily reject them because they help them feel more like the animal they have chosen.
There are several ways to engage in pet bondage. The most straightforward method is classic rope bondage. Almost any position of the body can be accomplished with the correct knots and rigging. However, it's crucial to know precisely what you're doing because improper rope work can place the body in dangerous positions. Instead of merely reading about it, find someone with experience and be appropriately shown if you're ever unsure or want to learn how to tie somebody up.
Many other pet play accessories can make the experience more genuine for your pet. Some of these are better suited for a certain kind of creature than others, and they might vary significantly from piece to piece. Here are a few examples:
- Tail Butt Plugs: It goes without saying that a butt plug with a tail attached will give the impression that your pet has a tail. However, the sense of belonging and ownership that butt plugs still evoke is still suitable for your pet, just as it is for an enslaved person or submissive. Numerous furry butt plug options are available to you, such as wolf tails for sex, dog tail butt plugs, cat tails, bunny butt plugs, or even a fox anal tail toy.
- Humblers: In all of my experience with sex toys, humblers are arguably the most intriguing piece I've encountered. I've witnessed a lot, but they are incredibly ingenious. Regretfully, they are only truly appropriate for men. The pet's ankles are restrained, and shackles are fastened to the humbler's main body. Additionally, because the testicles are linked, they are dragged away from the body when the wearer tries to stand up, which is obviously quite unpleasant. Like an animal, this requires the person to stay on all fours.
- Bondage Mitts/Boots: These are shoes or gloves made to limit a person's range of motion. Both can be made to resemble the selected animal's paws or hooves. They make it more challenging or even impossible to walk or pick things up because they limit how a person can use their hands or feet.
- Gags: It should go without saying that gags are employed to prevent someone from speaking while acting like an animal. Bondage gags are popular in ponyplay because they frequently resemble a horse's bit.
Bringing It All Together
It is highly uncommon for an owner to have their pet engage in only one or two of these activities. Most of the time, a variety of tools and techniques will be combined. This tends to have emotional and psychological components as well, rather than just physical ones. It is entirely up to the individuals in the relationship to decide how much or how deeply each element is employed. Other aspects of play may consist of:
- Collars: Although collars are already suitable for pets, the BDSM community may reach a stage of development akin to that of general collar use. The pet may be awarded with nicer, more ornate collars as they improve their training.
- Leashes and reins: These are frequently used to guide dogs and horses.
- One of the more drastic training tools is a shock collar. If the pet misbehaves, a jolt will be administered via a remote-controlled shock collar. However, these should only be taken sparingly because they are harmful.
- Public Displays/Performances: Some players enjoy bringing their roleplay with them wherever they go. This can range from a full-fledged dressage show as a pony to only having to go potty outside like a dog.
- Clothes: The owner may select the pet's outfit. A lot of cats and dogs are frequently left nude. Others may be required to wear complete fursuits (especially for foxes, wolves, or raccoons) or have relatively restricted attire, frequently made of latex.
- Training: Like a slave, practically every pet will go through some kind of training regimen. The owner's expectations will determine how rigorous this training program is. Although this is typically determined prior to the experience, an animal may be especially uncooperative or challenging to teach.
Start With a Contract
As you can see, there are countless opportunities for a play connection. Given the abundance of alternatives, it's critical to be forthright and honest with potential partners about your expectations and the kind of goals you hope to achieve. Everyone dislikes having unexpected and unpleasant things thrown at them.
A written contract that is signed by both sides is the method of choice for many players. These contracts precisely outline what would happen in each scenario and are an exemplary act of trust between people, even though they won't stand up in court. This can cover the owner's plans for caring for the pet as well as details about the person's possessions.
When a strong contract is in place, and both parties are aware of all the pet play activities they will be participating in during the encounter, both the pet and the owner can fully relax and enjoy the experience. If you've found this intriguing or alluring in any way, you should definitely give it a try for yourself because it's truly something very special and different!
