Taboo and Forbidden Fantasies
Taboo refers to what society currently forbids or does not permit. What society values or considers sacred is the antithesis of what is taboo. Anything that society has deemed improper in terms of sexual fantasy and action is considered taboo in a sexual setting.
Adopting a taboo is an act of disobedience, as taboo is inherently forbidden. One may feel erotic delight and arousal by defying social norms and expectations and indulging in obtaining what we're not supposed to have instead.
Craving the Forbidden Fruit
Dr. Justin Lehmiller's sexological research indicates that one of the most prevalent sexual fantasies is "forbidden sex," or taboo sex. According to his study, these imaginations were even more common than love or romance.
Perverse, depraved, sick, and contentious are some ways to describe these so-called "forbidden fruit" fantasies. In certain situations, playing out these fantasies in real life would be improper, a sign of a mental illness, or against the law. One way to experience the sexiness of taboo desires without hurting someone else is to explore them through fictitious media like written erotica and visual pornography or through roleplay scenarios that are imagined.
Common Taboo Fantasies
Taboo can be a personal experience for each person. However, given what that set of individuals normally values most, some ideas will apply more broadly to a complete culture or community.
The following are some of the most prevalent taboo or prohibited fantasies:
Voyeurism is the act of picturing someone else engaging in sexual activity, either alone or with partners who have given their consent. Cuckolding, group sex, going to sex parties, and roleplaying with a partner are a few examples of such behaviours.
The act of envisioning oneself performing or exhibiting oneself in a sexual situation in front of an audience or doing so with partners who have given their consent is known as exhibitionism. Roleplaying games or group sex activities can also fall under this category.
Fetish play is any sexual play that involves the imagination or participation in fetish-related activities. Anything from wearing leather and stockings to boot-licking and foot worship can fall under this category. Refer to Fetish.
Incest is the idea of engaging in sexual activity with a family member or blood-related.
The idea of having sex with animals is known as zoophilia.
Chronophilia is the practice of roleplaying as someone who is a different age than you or envisioning having sex with someone significantly older than you (see Age Play).
Animal roleplay involves posing as an anthropomorphic animal to engage in romantic or sexual play (furry sex, for example).
Distinction Between Sexual Fantasy and Illegal Activity
The two most common forbidden fantasies are voyeurism (the tendency or desire to become aroused by watching others engage in intimate activities) and exhibitionism (the tendency or desire to become sexually aroused by the knowledge that others are watching as you engage in intimate activities).
These actions shouldn't be carried out without everyone's permission. It is harassing and frequently against the law to watch, record, or expose oneself to someone without that person's knowledge or consent.
However, voyeurism and exhibitionism were distinguished as either consensual or nonconsensual, with the former being more common. It can be a safe and healthy way to explore these typical sexual dreams, but only with willing people and using one's imagination.
